Daycos led their second Bike Build competition today, inviting several Norfolk businesses to join in and build 53 bicycles. Employee’s of Daycos, Elkhorn Valley Bank, Midwest Bank and Real Estate Solutions donated money for the purchase of bikes and helped build them. Donations for the event also were made by Target, Cleveland Bike and Authier-Miller-Pape Eyecare.
Last year, Daycos employees put together 14 bikes. Each team had to solve a puzzle to earn a piece of the bike and then assemble the bike correctly. The bikes were then “test driven” down the parking lot and later were safety checked before being donated to the Salvation Army for children in need.
The bikes will be donated to the Salvation Army, The Zone, Bright Horizons, Norfolk Rescue Mission, CASA, Aftershock and children in Pierce, who were designated through organizations with the community’s elementary school. Each bike will come with a helmet.
