Daycos recently welcomed two software engineer interns from Wayne State College.
Computer Science majors Dakota Gullicksen and Ajharul Islam Aunik work on our special projects team and are collaborating on redesigning one of our billing services.
Both have been active in campus clubs and programs and have served in various mentorship and leadership roles.
Aunik, who hails from Dhaka, Bangladesh, is serving as the secretary for the Wayne State College Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) chapter. He has a passion for creating an environment that promotes coding and software development among middle and high school students in Nebraska.
A 2021 Madison High School graduate, Dakota participated in the Scouts program for 12 years and considers his Eagle Scout award one of his greatest achievements. He also competed on the Madison cross-country team and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Aunik has been a lifelong soccer fan, supporting both Argentina and Barcelona. Other than being a fan, he also played as a left-back defender on his high school soccer team, winning the district-level championship. He also competed in running events while attending Dhaka Residential Model College, where he had the unique experience of living in dormitories throughout his primary, elementary, and high school years.
When he’s not coding, Dakota enjoys reading, watching movies, working out, and eating the hottest hot wings. He has five younger siblings, four parents, two dogs, and two cats.
Despite being a cat lover, Aunik doesn’t currently have any pets, but he does have a keen interest in flying. He is an active member of the Northeast Nebraska Aviators Club and enjoys spending his weekends practicing flying simulations.
One fun fact about Dakota is that he 3D-printed his own EEG and occasionally makes programs with it. Yes, that EEG – the medical device that measures the electrical activity of the brain! As an international student from Bangladesh, Aunik is deeply engaged in navigating and transcending cultural barriers. He cites his journey to study abroad as one of his biggest achievements.
Both have enjoyed their first month with Daycos and have found it to be a welcoming environment where no question is too small and every inquiry is an opportunity for growth.
